One person was taken to hospital following a serious accident in Birtley.
Police cordoned off Portobello Road in Birtley, Gateshead for several hours Thursday evening after the incident.
Para-academics rushed to the scene, while a Great North Air Ambulance helicopter was also called in.
It is understood that a motorcyclist was involved in the collision.
Footage from the scene shows glass from a shattered bus shelter strewn over a section of the road.
Buses in the area were diverted after the crash, which took place just before 4:45 p.m.
There has also been disruption around Portmeads Road and Birtley Lane.
A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4:43 pm for a road collision on Portobello Road in Birtley.
“We dispatched three teams from our hazardous area response team, two ambulance teams and an officer.
“We transported a patient to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
Northumbria Police have been contacted for comment.
