Police officer ‘bitten and beaten’ in Haywards Heath Brighton News

A police officer was bitten and punched by a suspect after reporting a disturbance.

Officers were called to a property on Sussex Road, Haywards Heath at 10 p.m. Saturday evening (May 1).

It is understood that three people were arrested.

The initial report to the police concerned property damage.

Inspector Darren Taylor then said police were attacked by a suspect.

He said three arrests had been made, but a suspect is still at large.

Inspector Taylor said a suspect “hit and bit” a police officer and said the behavior was “unacceptable”.

On Twitter he wrote: “Unacceptable! The team responded to reports of property damage at Sussex Road, Haywards Heath last night at 10pm.

“Three inmates for ABH (assault causing bodily harm) and assault on an emergency worker.

“One of the team members was hit and bitten by one of the suspects.

“Another suspect remains in suspense.”

Anyone with information about the incident or the fourth suspect can report it to Sussex Police online or call 101 and cite the incident as CAD 1431 of 01/05.
