People will soon be able to take a Covid test when shopping in Bath city center Bath City News

A new coronavirus testing site opens in Bath, to meet the needs of downtown shoppers and workers.

Rapid Covid tests will be easier to obtain for people on the go or at work in the center, thanks to the new test and collection site starting Monday, May 10.

The Bath and North East Somerset Council hopes the Burton Street site will offer practice testing and test kit collections for buyers and workers.

The new site will replace the facilities at the Apex Hotel, which closes tomorrow (May 7).

The site will operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tests can be booked here, as well as those from Midsomer Norton and Keynsham.

There will be no on-site testing available in Bath on Saturday May 8, but the kits can be picked up from pharmacies in the district.

The folks at BANES can now go to over 40 locations to pick up a kit and people can find their nearest location here.

Locals are encouraged to visit one of the testing centers regularly to take a test or pick up a test kit. The tests are done twice a week, three or four days apart.

Councilor Dine Romero, Cabinet Member for Children and Youth, Communities and Culture, said: ‘It’s good news that lockdown restrictions continue to decrease, but it means an increased risk of Covid transmission -19.

“Our new test and collection site will make it easier than ever for you to take a test while shopping in Bath, or even during your lunch break.

“Please continue to test twice a week and continue to follow the rules so that we stay on track with the government’s roadmap.”

Becky Reynolds, Director of Public Health, said: “It is always very important that we all continue to work hard to break the chains of transmission of Covid-19 by performing rapid tests on a regular basis.

“Taking a test is easy and there are plenty of places you can get a test kit. This new site will make it even easier for people who buy and work in Bath. Let’s stay on track.”

Having a Covid-19 Lateral Flow Test (LFT) is quick and easy. Once you register online, the test only takes five minutes – with results sent by text or email later today.

Testing is open to anyone over the age of 16 who lives or works in Bath and North East Somerset, provided they are free of symptoms.
