Indian variant: Boris Johnson will provide an update on four deaths in the UK linked to a new Covid mutation UK News

“The vast majority of our cases are in their teens, twenties and thirties at the moment”

The Bolton Council chief said he has been in talks with the government about introducing “surge” vaccines to the region where there have been a high number of cases of the Indian variant.

David Greenhalgh told BBC Radio 4’s The World at One magazine: “It’s all about capacity, but we’ve had some very, very constructive discussions and all that comes out is that they are looking to move the game forward. as quickly as possible.

“The vast majority of our cases are in their teens, twenties and thirties at the moment.

“If we can get (the elderly) 16 and over, which are licensed by Pfizer, vaccinated, then that will completely transform transmission as it progresses.”

“I realistically think it would start in targeted areas where we are currently seeing the prevalence (of the virus).”
