A LIVE power cable has collapsed, blocking a path in wet weather.
Sussex Police were called to the incident off Cuckfield Road in Hassocks last night at around 7 p.m. after members of the public sounded the alarm.
Inspector Darren Taylor said: “People were calling to tell us that a big power cable had fallen, and of course it was live.
“The weather obviously didn’t help. It’s quite shocking.
“The agents guarded the area until our colleagues at Power Networks arrived within the hour and were able to deal with it.

“Fortunately, nobody was hurt.”
UK Power Networks has been contacted for comment on the incident.
The grid operator said in a statement on its website: “Our power grid is designed to be resilient, but extreme weather conditions can affect overhead power lines.
“If you see an airline going down, please keep people out of the way.
“Please treat electrical cables like live cables, stay away and call us immediately on 0800 31 63 105 or 105, which is free to call from a landline or mobile phone.
“If you see any power lines that are down or pose a significant risk to the public, please call 999.”
