Man arrested after bomb threat at Brighton station Brighton News

A MAN was arrested after claiming to have a bomb outside Brighton station.

The station was temporarily closed to the public at 3:49 a.m. Sunday, after police responded to a report that a man claimed to have an explosive device and was threatening.

A cordon was put in place as a safety measure while officers searched the area thoroughly.

A 27-year-old man was quickly arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

He was not in possession of an explosive device.

A further sweep of the area was carried out by armed officers.

Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw said: “This is being treated as an isolated incident and there does not appear to be a threat to the public at this time.

“The cordon has now been lifted and rail services have resumed from Brighton station.

“The officers remain at the scene in collaboration with the British transport police to carry out further investigations.

“We thank the public for their patience and understanding as we conduct our work.”
