Animal rights protesters are blocking four McDonald’s distribution centers in an attempt to disrupt supplies to around 1,300 restaurants.

Animal Rebellion said it was using vans and bamboo structures at the Hemel Hempstead, Basingstoke, Coventry and Heywood sites in Greater Manchester, to prevent trucks from leaving depots.

Protesters call on McDonald’s to pledge to go all-plant by 2025.

Animal Rebellion said it intends to stay at the venues for at least 24 hours, causing “significant disruption” in the fast food giant’s supply chain.

James Ozden, a spokesperson for the group, said the action was aimed at challenging the animal agriculture industry for its role in the global climate crisis.

He said: “The meat and dairy industry is destroying our planet: causing huge amounts of deforestation of the rainforest, emitting immense amounts of greenhouse gases and killing billions. animals every year.

“The only sustainable and realistic way to feed ten billion people is through a plant-based food system. The organic, outdoor and ‘sustainable’ animal-based options are just not good enough.”

The group describes itself as “a mass voluntary movement using nonviolent civil disobedience to help transition to a plant-based food system.”
