Littlehampton hammer attack: woman injured in robbery near Pier Road Brighton News

A WOMAN was left deaf in one ear after a hammer attack theft in an alleyway.

She was walking between Clifton Road and Pier Road in Littlehampton when she was approached by a man offering her drugs.

The 41-year-old victim refused, the man hit her on the head with a claw hammer, while an accomplice joined in the attack, kicking the victim.

But police said another woman, who spoke with an East European accent, ‘bravely’ interrupted the attack, with the two thieves escaping with £ 40 in cash from the woman.

The incident happened at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12.

This left the woman with multiple facial and head injuries requiring stitches. She is also currently deaf in one ear which still requires medical treatment.

The narrow lane passes behind the Travis Perkins supplies depot and Dinky Doo Diner cafe at Pier Road.

The hammer-wielding man wore a blue zip-up jacket and blue jeans, and the woman accompanying him wore blue jeans and a gray top.

Detective Constable Jordan Holmes said: “We would very much like to speak to the woman who bravely disrupted this attack, and we ask her and anyone else who has further information to contact us.”

Following police investigations, a 34-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and robbery.

After being questioned, they were released on police bail until June 14, while the investigation continues.

Anyone with information can report it to Sussex Police online or by calling 101, citing series 776 of 05/14.
