New coronavirus death in Somerset as cases rise in four regions Bath City News

Another person has died in Somerset following a diagnosis of Covid-19, according to government figures released Tuesday evening (May 25).

The death – within 28 days of testing positive for the virus – took place in the Mendip region, where two more deaths were recorded yesterday.

Meanwhile, seven more cases have been reported in Somerset during the last 24-hour reporting period. There were three new infections in Somerset West and Taunton, two in Bath and North East Somerset and one in each of North Somerset and South Somerset.

No new cases were recorded at Sedgemoor, while Mendip’s total fell by two.

The number of cases for parts of Somerset has continued to fluctuate in recent days due to revisions to earlier data. This means that there are still discrepancies in the case totals if they are compared to previous days.

There were also further revisions to the death data today, with Sedgemoor’s total being reduced by one.

Nationally, the government said another 15 people died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 127,739.

Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there are now 153,000 registered deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The government also said as of 9 a.m. on Tuesday there had been 2,493 more laboratory-confirmed cases in the UK.

This brings the total to 4,467,310.

Death within 28 days of a positive test result

Statistics show the total number of people who have died within 28 days of a positive test result, with any changes in the past 24 hours in parentheses:

Bath and North East Somerset: 218 (-) Mendip: 163 (+1) North Somerset: 315 (-) Sedgemoor: 160 (-1) Somerset West and Taunton: 203 (-) South Somerset: 153 (-)

Government data up to May 24 shows that of the 61,420,928 jabs administered in the UK so far, 38,192,417 were first doses – an increase of 122,379 the day before.

Some 23,228,511 were second doses, an increase of 332,955.
