New Genesis G80 and GV80 Achieve Five Star Euro NCAP Ratings Car News

The new Genesis G80 and GV80 got a five-star safety verdict in the latest round of Euro NCAP tests, while the Citroën C4 got four stars.

Recent testing has focused on “assessing crash resistance and crash avoidance”. The new BMW 4 Series Coupé and 4 Series Cabriolet corresponded to the five-star standard achieved by the 3 Series on which they are based.

Both Genesis models were credited for the effectiveness of their head, chest and center airbags.

The G80 sedan achieved an adult occupant score of 91% and a child occupant score of 87%, as well as a safety assistance score of 91%.

The larger GV80 SUV also scored 91% and 87% for adult occupants and children, and 88% for safety assistance, respectively.

“These times remain difficult for the automotive industry, with the pandemic and the semiconductor shortage presenting great challenges,” said Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP. “Yet Genesis has succeeded in bringing to market two cars that offer excellent rugged and comprehensive safety performance.”

The third-generation C4 achieved an overall rating of four stars, with an adult occupant score of 76%, a child occupant score of 83%, 57% for the protection of vulnerable road users and 63% for security assistance. Euro NCAP suggested it could have achieved a higher score with “more careful engineering”.

The C4 has been tested with standard equipment, including automatic emergency braking that responds to both vehicles and pedestrians. An optional cyclist detection function is available.

Meanwhile, several models have had their Euro NCAP ratings extended to cover hybrid variants, including the Renault Captur, Skoda Octavia, Vauxhall Grandland X and Volkswagen Golf.

In addition, the BMW X3 and Vauxhall Corsa have had their ratings extended to their electric variants.
