Wales will begin a gradual transition to Alert Level One from Monday 7 June with up to 30 people able to meet outside, Welsh Prime Minister Mark Drakeford said.

According to plans, major outdoor activities and events will resume first before three households and an additional support bubble are then allowed to come together soon after.

Ministers will review the public health situation again before June 21 to determine whether indoor events can restart and whether the move to alert level one can be completed, Mr Drakeford said.

He added that the two-step approach to unlocking will allow more people to be vaccinated twice amid growing concerns about the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus – formerly known as the Indian variant – across the country. UK.

Announcing the gradual move to alert level on a Friday, the Welsh Prime Minister said: ‘I want to thank everyone in Wales for all they have done to control the spread of the coronavirus and keep rates low .

“The emergence of the delta variant shows that the pandemic is not yet over and we must all continue to take action to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

“The risk of infection is significantly less outdoors than indoors. That is why we are gradually introducing the changes into this three week cycle.

“This will allow more people to enjoy outdoor events and enjoy the Welsh summer as we continue to roll out the vaccination program for all adults.

“We will be reviewing the public health situation again in a few weeks to see if we can continue to ease restrictions and restart indoor events. “
