A man is in critical condition in hospital after crashing during a police chase in Wigan.
The man in his twenties was driving an all-terrain moped.
He didn’t stop shortly before 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Greater Manchester Police said.
Officers, who had participated in an anti-social behavior operation, were chasing him while he was riding mountain bikes.
The man got off his bike on Shuttle Street in Tyldesley and was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
PC John Cavanagh, of GMP’s Serious Crash Investigation Unit, said: “Our hearts go out to the family of the man who is understandably upset as he fights for his life in the hospital .
“A cordon is currently in place at the scene and we reported the incident to the IOPC due to contact with the police moments before this incident.
“We will do our utmost to support any further investigation.”
