One Direction star Liam Payne has called off his engagement to American model Maya Henry less than a year after announcing it.
He confirmed the split when he appeared on The Diary Of A CEO podcast, revealing it happened during the lockdown.
Payne said he was “disappointed” in himself for “hurting people”, and that he was “working” on his emotions.
The couple first met in 2019 at several public events, before announcing their engagement in August 2020.
He told podcast host Steven Bartlett: “I feel, more than anything at this point, that I’m more disappointed with myself. [that] I keep hurting people. It annoys me.
“I just haven’t been very good at relationships and I know what my pattern of relationships is at this point.
“I’m just not very good with them, so I just need to work on myself before I get down to someone else.”
He added, “That’s where I got to in my last relationship. I wasn’t giving a really good version of myself anymore, that I didn’t like and didn’t like to be.
“I can honestly say I feel better about it. I didn’t feel good doing what I did but it had to happen. It’s just the most cheesy way of saying it was the best for it. the two of us – whatever, cool, great story, buddy.
“But it’s just like that. I know it was a problem so I have to sort myself out. I already feel good. It already made me more focused and I hope she’s happy.”

The 27-year-old singer dated Girls Aloud singer Cheryl between 2016 and 2018, with their son Bear born in March 2017.
One Direction shocked the world by going their separate ways in 2016 to take an indefinite hiatus, with the band members each having a number of solo projects.
