Ford revives Maverick name for $ 20,000 hybrid pickup Car News

Ford has announced the return of the Maverick as a fully hybrid compact pickup truck with prices starting at $ 19,995 (around £ 14,000).

The new Maverick will launch in the United States as the country’s first pickup with a fully hybrid powertrain. It will be Ford’s smallest available pickup, measuring 5,072mm long and 1,745mm high. The Ranger, also described by Ford as “compact,” is 282mm taller and 71mm taller.

“The Maverick product proposition is unlike anything else. It’s a great four-door truck that seats five adults, a standard full hybrid engine with city fuel economy that beats a Honda Civic… and it starts at under $ 20,000, ”said Todd Eckert. , Marketing Director of the Ford Truck Group.

The truck will be powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine producing 191 hp and 155 lb-ft. The US company says the five-seater will be the most fuel-efficient truck on sale, returning around 40 mpg to the city with up to 500 miles of range per tank.

An option for a more powerful 2.0-liter petrol engine will also be available with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, although mpg and range figures have not yet been released.

Three trim levels, XL, XLT and Lariat, will be available for the Maverick. All-wheel drive with all-terrain tires, suspension tuning, and off-road drive modes are available on the XLT and Lariat specs, though pricing has yet to be revealed beyond the XL.

An 8.0-inch touchscreen houses Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features, and Ford describes the interior as “surprisingly spacious” with “excellent leg and head height, shoulder and hip width, and stance. comfortable seat for both rows “.

The Maverick is expected to go on sale in the United States in the fall of this year, with a limited uniquely styled First Edition pack available for the 2022 model year only. The American company initially used the name Maverick in 1970 for a compact two-door rear-wheel drive car, and later in Europe for a compact SUV based on Nissan Terrano.
