Global Internet Blackout Hits Major Websites Including UK Government Site | Scientific and technological news

A number of major websites have been shut down around the world, including UK government web pages.

Those who log into have seen a message saying “503 Service not available”.

Other affected sites include The Guardian, Financial Times, Independent, New York Times, Evening Standard, Bloomberg and Le Monde as well as Reddit, eBay and Twitch.

Fastly, a global online content delivery (CDN) network, has reported an outage on its network, affecting sites that use its platform.

The US company confirmed that it is “currently studying the potential impact on the performance of our CDN services.”

The outage appears to affect some services of the Sky News website and app, including our live blog and videos.

Other affected sites include Blackboard, which further and higher education providers use to teach classes and submit reviews.

The outage comes hundreds of thousands of 25-29 people who have become eligible for their COVID-19 vaccines, and have been already having difficulty booking online.
