Covid restricts ad attention during Euro tournament Brighton News

One pub that has managed to embrace the football mode fully is Ye Olde King and Queen in Marlborough Place, Brighton. The pub has been decorated with numerous flags representing the countries participating in the tournament.

A huge inflatable soccer ball with the Euro 2020 logos has been placed above the bar, ready for the fans. English fans will be able to enjoy the setting for the match against Croatia on Sunday at 2 p.m.

General Manager Mark Such said: “We have put up flags and banners to celebrate the tournament, we have included all countries, so everyone is welcome.

“Everyone is trying to get a seat so they can watch football. But unfortunately some people don’t show up for their reservations so we have to operate on a first come, first serve basis.”

“We are doing what is necessary to deal with the restrictions on Covid-19 that the government has put in place. So we have gone from our usual 500 to 150, although that is a challenge.”

Walkabout in West Street, Brighton and The Blind Busker in Church Road, Hove installed flags for the tournament.

Antonello Moti, Team Leader at Walkabout, said: “Euros are a great way to greet people in the bar. We managed to display a few flags around the bar, but it’s not a lot.”

“Although with the restrictions, we have focused on securing reservations. However, there are always a few tables reserved for meetings.

“We are expecting a lot of people, especially for England’s matches against Croatia and Scotland. Being Italian, I was hoping we would start the tournament in the first game with a victory.”

Other pubs showing games include The World’s End, London Road, Brighton, North Laine Brewhouse, Gloucester Place, Brighton, and The Station, Goldstone Villas, Hove.
