Jennifer Saunders Says Absolutely Fabulous Won’t Be Made Today “Because Everything Is Sensitive” | Ents & Arts News

The hit sitcom Absolutely Fabulous wouldn’t be making today “because everything is sensitive,” said one of its stars.

Jennifer Saunders, who appeared on the show alongside Joanna Lumley, told The Sun that modern culture has “changed comedy like what we used to do.”

“I think we would probably be okay now,” she added.

“It would be like, ‘We won’t have a good answer, so let’s not do that.

“I think people are talking to each other now because everything is sensitive.”

Saunders, who played public relations guru Edina Monsoon alongside Lumley’s Patsy Stone, also said, “What pisses me off? Quite a few things actually. I get pissed off by people and sweet reviews all the time.

“It’s a modern thing, isn’t it? If someone says something, it always has to be ‘Oh, but sorry, you can’t say that’. I say ‘Oh damn’.

“It is not a crime to have an opinion or to say something.

“It’s always pettiness and narrow-mindedness that pisses me off – bigotry and narrow-mindedness.”

Absolutely Fabulous originally aired between 1992 and 1996, before being relaunched in 2001 and running for another three years.

A series of specials were filmed to mark its 20th anniversary, ahead of the release of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie in 2016.
