Closure of Lloyds Bank and Halifax branches around Barnet UK News

Lloyds Banking Group announced the closure of 44 branches of Lloyds and Halifax in England and Wales.

Among the branches listed are Lloyds Bank at Finchley Lane in Hendon and Halifax at Darkes Lane at Potters Bar.

In total, Lloyds said 29 Lloyds Bank branches and 15 Halifax branches would close, adding that customers were doing “considerably” fewer transactions at those sites.

Vim Maru, Retail Director of Lloyds Banking Group, said: “We have also seen our digital banking customers grow by over four million in five years, to almost 18 million, of which 13.6 million also choose to be active users of applications.

“This means that, like many businesses on Main Street, we need to change for a future where branches are used in a different way and visited less often.

“We will continue to invest in our presence in the shopping streets as we are opening a new conceptual branch of Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh this week, the only bank to take up residence in the new St James district.

“. and 11,500 post offices, where our customers can bank and access cash.

Lloyds said of the closings announced Wednesday that more than a third are branches located in or around towns and cities with another branch “very close”.

He added that at the group’s branches, transactions fell by 10% per year in the five years leading up to March 2020, and considerably more in the year since.

Nine in ten customers have a branch within five miles of their home, he said.

Unite, a union, said the decision was a “blow” to staff and customers and accused the bank of “moving away” from local communities.
