England’s R number remains unchanged between 1.2 and 1.4 | UK News

England’s R number has remained the same between 1.2 and 1.4, according to the latest estimates.

The weekly figure – produced by the scientific advisory committee SAGE – was at the same position last Friday and the previous Friday.

An R-value – or reproduction number – between 1.2 and 1.4 means that on average, 10 infected people will infect between 12 and 14 other people.

When the number is greater than 1, an epidemic can grow exponentially, but when it is less than 1, it means that the epidemic is decreasing.

The daily growth rate of infections has been estimated at 3% to 5%, up from 3% to 6% last week.
