If you’ve missed your usual week in Mallorca, or maybe a fortnight in the Bahamas, then we’ve got the place for you.
Bath on the Beach is back in Victoria Park this year, just in time to show the euros on the big screen.
They have opted for a “Caribbean island” theme and they do nothing by halves. You can expect soft sand, lounge chairs, and frozen cocktails.

But if lounging isn’t your style, don’t hesitate to grab a bat and play ping-pong, or try your hand at boules.
Promising an authentic beach bar in the middle of Bath is an ambitious plan, so we decided to give it a try for ourselves.
Home
Eating out on your own can be a daunting task, but the guy who greets customers at the door has made it a lot easier.
He asked me if I wanted to sit on the grass or in the sand and I said grass because I hadn’t brought my flip flops.
“So you can sit anywhere,” he replied, so I picked out a nice picnic table with an umbrella on it and scanned the QR code for the online menu.

Adjustment
Granted, I was skeptical that a sandbox in Victoria Park would be a “beach”, but once I sat down I started to feel quite relaxed.
They were playing classic holiday tunes – read Fleetwood Mac and Dancing in the Moonlight – in the background and everyone seemed very relaxed.
The design of the bar was quite convincing, with colorful signs and fairy lights to decorate it. Palm trees dotted around the grassy area also added to the Caribbean theme.

As I scrolled through the menu, I enjoyed the sound of tennis balls bouncing from the nearby courts. It all added to the “holiday village” atmosphere and helped me forget I was in Bath.
It probably helped me to go there on a sunny day, but – although I expected to hate it – I found that I really enjoyed the beach theme and layout.
For anyone who is still very cautious about Covid, the tables on the grass were all very far apart, which helped me feel comfortable.
Beach tea
I decided to order one of the bar’s signature cocktails to see what it was about.
After going through the menu a few times, I opted for Beach Tea – a concoction of vodka, honey cazcabel, iced tea, and lemonade.
Wasn’t sure what to expect, but when a large plastic cup filled to the brim arrived, I must say I was delighted.
The Beach Tea was iced, and while I could tell it was alcoholic, it tasted more like iced tea than a cocktail.
Overall the effect was very summery and pleasant, and considering the size of the cup, it was also good value for money.

After seeing the pizzas advertised on the site, I couldn’t wait to try one.
I opted for the prosciutto and arugula because it sounded a little different and wanted the illusion of eating a vegetable. When it arrived, I was not disappointed. The masterpiece appeared on a silver platter and it was huge.
In fact, it was so big that I had to sacrifice the scabs to be able to eat it all. In practical terms, most of the rocket fell off the pizza before it reached my mouth, but it was still nice to have it there.
The base was also quite flexible and had no cutlery or napkins so I found myself a bit of a mess at the end.
I have no regrets, however, and would recommend the tasty wood-fired pizza to anyone.
Goodbye to my half-hour vacation to Bath on the Beach (Image: Bath Live) Overall ratings
I’m not going to lie, I expected to hate Bath on the Beach, just because I couldn’t see how it could be an authentic experience.
However, I was pleasantly surprised – both with the quality of the food and drink, and the surroundings.
As long as you go on a sunny day like me, I can guarantee you will leave feeling relaxed, well nourished, and just a little drunk.
Notes
Design – 9/10
After my meal I went to the bathroom and found it rather cramped and stuffy otherwise it would have been a 10/10.
Food – 9/10
Drink – 10/10
