Cell phone footage has emerged of Professor Chris Whitty, England’s chief medical officer, being manhandled by two men on the street.
The video, which appeared on Twitter, was condemned by Vaccine Minister Nadhim Zahawi, who tweeted: “It’s disgusting and these thugs must be found and charged.
“Zero tolerance for harassing an official.
The footage shows Professor Whitty struggling to break free from the hold of the men as they cling to him, laughing and posing for the camera.
Professor Whitty manages to take a few steps back, but the men hold him back again as he crosses a road.
Eventually, a voice – thought to be that of a passer-by – can be heard telling the men to “leave this gentleman alone”.
It is not known when or where the incident took place, but Sky News has asked Downing Street for a response to the video.

This is the second time this year that Professor Whitty has been harassed on camera.
