Kia has given its Ceed lineup a makeover, with the updated tailgate, Proceed shooting brake and Sportswagon estate set to go on sale in Q4 2021.
The front has been heavily redesigned, the grille gains a glossy black finish and satin chrome fenders. The design of the headlights was also changed, with the GT-Line S and GT versions of the Proceed carrying daytime running lights which also serve as sequential indicators.
Meanwhile, the old Kia logo has been ditched in favor of the latest design, introduced earlier this year to mark a change in the brand’s approach.
At the rear, the bumper has gained a glossy black diffuser, and GT-Line cars receive a new rear light consisting of 48 honeycomb-shaped modules arranged in five rows, another of several measures to make each trim level easier to distinguish. GT-trimmed cars are given a variety of red accents for a sportier look.
Two new exterior colors – Fusion Orange and Machined Bronze – replace the current model’s Copper Stone option, and three new alloy wheel designs bring the total available to six: additions include 16-inch alloys in Silver, Gloss Black, 17 inch items on GT-Line cars and 18 inch alloys with red accents on GT cars.
The list of interior options has received a similar refresh, with four new upholstery finishes. Higher-performing cars have a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, each with high-resolution graphics.
The most significant changes were made as a result of Ceed’s security systems. The blind spot warning system can now avoid a crash if it detects that a collision is imminent, and the rear cross traffic warning system can now intervene with emergency braking if necessary.
Driver awareness warning has been enhanced with a visual cue on the Ceed screen, modifying drivers when the car in front has moved away from a set of lights, and a safety exit warning system can alert users of approaching traffic when they open the door.
The engine lineup is unchanged, with the 1.5-liter T-GDi engine replacing the older 1.4-liter unit earlier this year. It can be paired with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT automatic, producing 158 hp. The 1.6-liter diesel versions of the Ceed produce 134 hp and are just mild hybrids.
Pricing details will be confirmed soon, and it is likely that starting prices for all three body styles will see a modest increase to reflect the updated technology.
