Yavneh College closes early after large Covid outbreak UK News

More than 250 students and school staff have been ordered to self-isolate before the summer session.

Yavneh College in Borehamwood closed the school early after a significant spike in Covid cases, and the final days before the summer term will continue with distance learning.

The school itself was nearing the end of the summer term next Wednesday (July 21), and students would have stayed in school until then before the outbreak became clear.

In a letter to parents, principal Spencer Lewis said the decision was made after discussions with local authorities.

The letter read: “As you know, we have had a large number of positive cases of Covid-19 among students and staff over the past few days, which has resulted in the self-isolation of over 250 students and Staff,

“I’m so sorry I had to make this decision which is the last thing I wanted to do.”

According to data from Public Health England, in the week ending July 10, there were 21 cases in the Borehamwood Hilllside area, where Yavneh College is based.

There were also 33 cases in Borehamwood Brookmeadow, 20 in Kenilworth and 17 in Cowley Hill.
