The East Yorkshire club has confirmed that it has secured Huddersfield Giants utility running back Sam Wood a one-year contract for 2022.
The 24-year-old Dewsbury-born Wood is a product of the Huddersfield academy system and has played more than 80 games for the Super League team without ever establishing himself as a regular.
At six feet four inches tall, he has a lot of presence and Smith believes he has untapped potential.
“Sam has been in the Huddersfield system for a while and we think he has developed very well,” the coach said.
“Sam is looking for a change and he has a bit to prove himself.
I think Sam sees himself mainly in the center, but he is capable of wing play, he is currently playing in the middle and he can play in the second row.
“It gives us a lot of versatility and ambition. (Sam) wants to be successful and has chosen to come to us to be successful.
“It is a great criterion to have. Anyone who wants to be a part of us and has a strong desire to wear the badge should be number one.
“He sees what we are doing here and he wants to be a part of it. To improve and help us to be stronger. “
