There’s nothing that says “all the cars you’ll ever need” like a quick station wagon, and here are two of the best and newest. Which means that in addition to having motors, you can plug them in.
The most recent is the Peugeot 508 SW Peugeot Sport Engineered 2021 (or as we call it, the Peugeot 508 PSE). It achieves its performance by having a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine and a small electric motor at the front, with all-wheel drive provided by an additional motor at the rear.
It makes 355 hp overall, which is good for 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph, while it has a zero-emission range of 26 miles, officially returns 138.9 mpg and has a CO2 output of 46 g / km. It costs £ 54,000.
She meets one of the traditional players in the fast wagon business, a BMW 330xe Touring, which costs a little less than the Peugeot, at £ 49,280.
The BMW has a 2.0-liter engine up front, and that’s also where its electric motor is located – they can run independently or together. In total, they combine to produce 289 hp, which is enough for 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 139 mph. Officially, it returns 176.6 mpg and produces 41 g / km of CO2.
Which, however, is the most compelling to drive? Join Matt Prior and James Disdale as they test the two back-to-back on the road and decide which is the more alluring proposition.
