Fighting 5G plan for Park Lodge, Dyke Road, Hove Brighton News

NEIGHBORS are coming together to oppose plans to install 5G masts on the roof of their building.

They were submitted by mobile phone infrastructure company Cornerstone on behalf of Telefonica UK, also known as O2, and its network sharing partner Vodafone.

They want to put 12 poles and four dishes on the roof of Park Lodge in Dyke Road, Hove, and seven cabinets in the common garden.

Tenants and tenants of the six-story block of 43 apartments have expressed outrage. They said that last year Cornerstone installed masts on the roof of the Territorial Army barracks across the road for O2 and Vodafone.

In its latest request to Brighton and Hove City Council, the telecommunications infrastructure company said the barracks equipment had a different operator.

Councilor Samer Bagaeen took up the matter with Cornerstone, who said the barracks’ false chimney and flagpole style masts were only used by O2.

The company said there was no room for additional Vodafone masts and the two companies did not share the same technology.

Cllr Bagaeen and fellow Conservative councilor Vanessa Brown, both of whom represent the Hove Park neighborhood, support the residents.

They were frustrated that they had not received any information from Cornerstone, although the company said it was sent in May.

In an email to activists, Cllr Bagaeen said the company admitted to having “slipped” when it came to consulting elected officials in the region.

He said: “This is a terrible, terrible request that should not be accepted. It has a checkered history with the explanation of what goes on in the TA building.

Residents are preparing to fight the proposal, and some 25 of them have attended two meetings to start organizing their campaign.

Valerie Bundy started a campaign against rooftop poles over 20 years ago and has said she is ready to fight.

She demarcated the space in the common garden where the wardrobes would go to help the neighbors see the effect on their private land.

Miss Bundy said: “Urgent action is needed due to the land grabbing by these telecom companies. The plan will completely change the look of the building for us and for the people around. It will also have an impact on the park, because we have trees that we think are ancient elms, and they are talking about cutting down trees and there are bats and other forms of wild animals there. .

She is also concerned about the visual impact on nearby listed buildings, the Dyke Pub and the Booth Museum.

Over 45 objections were filed along with two letters of support.
