Man dies falling from rocks on Dorset coast on hottest day of the year | UK News

A man has died after falling from rocks at a coastal site on the hottest day of the year, police said.

The man, who was in his 40s, fell from the rocks at Stair Hole near Lulworth Cove around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dorset said the police.

Police, paramedics, air ambulance and coast guard were all dispatched to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead shortly after.

There were no suspicious circumstances and his family has been notified, the force added.

The incident occurred on the hottest day of the year so far when temperatures reached 31.6C (88.9F) in London.

A ‘extreme heat warning’ is in place for the first time across the UK until midnight Thursday.

It comes as the coastguard of nearby Swanage issued a warning not to take selfies near the edges of the cliffs after an image of a couple appeared posing for the camera next to a huge drop.

HM Coastguard Swanage wrote next to the photo: “Taken last night near Old Harry – help us help you – Sunday.

“Don’t take any chances – this person is standing on top of a cliff with a maximum width of 50cm – this is NOT a path – with a fall on either side.”
