COVID-19: PM faces backlash over vaccine certification proposal as work criticism looms | Politics News

Boris Johnson’s plan to require proof of vaccination to enter nightclubs and other “crowded places” from the end of September faces a major backlash as Labor say they do not support some of the proposals.

On Tuesday, ministers confirmed that the government wants ‘higher risk’ settings soon to use the NHS COVID Pass, which can prove that a person has been fully vaccinated, in an effort to manage the risk of infections.

But on Wednesday Labor confirmed they opposed the use of vaccine certification “for daily access to places and services.”

“We need to see the details of what the government is proposing regarding vaccine passports,” a Labor spokesperson said.

“We oppose the use of COVID vaccination status for daily access to places and services. It is expensive, open to fraud and impractical.

“Being double-bitten does not prove that you are not a carrier of the virus. Site access tests would be more effective and give people and businesses more certainty.”
