Love Island has received more than 1,500 complaints following the inclusion of Danny Bibby as a candidate, after using a racial slur on social media.
The plumber and owner of the 25-year-old clothing brand, from Wigan, allegedly used the n-word in an Instagram post in 2019 that has since been deleted.
Broadcasting watchdog Ofcom has confirmed that it received a total of 1,507 complaints about a candidate’s casting on ITV2.
He received 1,081 about the July 15 episode in which Danny was announced to be entering the villa.
An episode of Island of love on July 18, 426 complaints were filed with Ofcom.
Danny apologized last week in a statement released via ITV.
He said: “I would like to take the time to apologize to anyone who may have taken offense at my inappropriate remark.
“I never meant to say anything malicious with this comment. I am not a racist person and it is unacceptable and ignorant language.
“I didn’t mean to offend and I feel like I really learned from my mistakes and never use that word again.
“I am a kind and loving person and I hope you can see him on the show.”
His statement came after his father Richard defended him, saying there was “no racist intent in the post” and that it was a “mistake” on his son’s part.
