Publication of plans for a new “garden park” as part of Taunton’s major development Bath City News

Plans for a new “garden park” to support residents of the new homes on the western outskirts of Taunton have been released by the developers.

Up to 2,000 homes will eventually be built between the A38 Wellington Road and Honiton Road, along with a new primary school, employment units and a ‘park and bus’ facility.

Somerset West and Taunton Council have already granted permission for several plots of land on the site, dubbed Orchard Grove – most recently in late June, where its planning committee approved plans for 166 houses on either side of the new secondary road .

Now the developers have presented plans for the first of several large green spaces planned throughout the urban sprawl, with the council planning to grant permission for the installation by the end of the year.

The new “garden park” (or “pocket park”) will include a 400m² playground, providing “an accessible, common and safe space to relax, play and socialize”.

The area will also include cycle and walking paths, tree-lined hedges and wildflower meadows, with the aim of reflecting both existing facilities in Taunton (such as Longrun Meadow) and the open countryside at the far end. western development.

Up to 100 acres of open green space will eventually be provided in the urban extension, which will be built in phases by 2028.

The council is expected to make a decision on the garden park proposals before Christmas.

It is currently unclear whether the plans will be submitted to its planning committee for a public decision.
