Re-signing Jack Hunt is not Sheffield Wednesday recycling – it’s just a bargain UK News

Because let’s face it, Jack Hunt is not a League One footballer.

At 30, he has a good age with a good experience. He knows the club, loves the club and brings a wealth of experience to a Wednesday squad which, after the summer exodus, is largely made up of young players who don’t have too many competitive games under their belt.

You absolutely cannot say that for Hunt. He has played almost 300 league games, he has over 80 League One / League Two games and has played in 11 different play-offs during his career. That’s exactly the kind of head Darren Moore needed to get through the door.

Position-wise, with Liam Palmer one of the most experienced players in the current setup, you could argue that a new right-back wasn’t necessarily high on the priority list for Moore, but if the terms are good for a player of his quality – especially in the third level – so he is not someone you want to let slip through your fingers.

Hunt also offers some versatility, as although he is a right-back by trade, he can also play higher up the pitch and has contributed numerous assists over the years. As a right winger he would be a loud cry, and if Palmer were to be moved to the left – where he’s already played – then you have experience on both flanks.

Yes, the former Bristol City and Huddersfield Town man stepped down for Wednesday, it’s not a new name, but Sam Hutchinson has also resigned, and he did a great job coming back to Hillsborough last season. And both could prove essential if Wednesday is to move things forward in League One.

Jack Hunt returns to Sheffield on Wednesday for a second stint.

For me, signing Hunt under the right conditions is obvious, I’m more surprised that Wednesday managed to capture him than anything else. So hats off to the Gaffer, I hope there will be Moore to come.
