Thousands of people in UK struggle to access food, new study finds | UK News

The hunger rate is 150% higher than the national average in one in six local authorities in the UK, according to a new study.

The University of Sheffield and Food Foundation study found that the area most affected by food insecurity is Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, with 14% of people estimated to be hungry and almost 30% of people with trouble accessing food.

This is closely followed by Hull in Yorkshire, where 13% of people report being hungry and more than one in five adults have difficulty accessing food.

The area with the least hunger, struggle, or worry is St. Albans.

The researchers modeled data from the Food Foundation, which used a YouGov survey that identified local authorities most affected by hunger in the UK.

According to data, in January 2021, 4.2% of adults said that in the previous month, they had been hungry but had not been able to eat at least once.

The majority of Yorkshire and the Humber are in the top 20 percentile with the highest percentages of hungry adults, while in the east of England the majority of authorities are in the 20% who have the lowest hunger levels.
