What happened?

Northumbria Police said they received a report around 3:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon of a scuffle on Springwell Avenue in Walker.

Two men were reported to be in possession of a blade and a baseball bat.

A large number of officers were deployed in the area, but the two men had left the scene.

Has anyone been arrested?

Northumbria Police have confirmed that a 25-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of a fight.

He is currently in police custody.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At approximately 3:45 pm today (Thursday) we received a report of an ongoing brawl in the Springwell Avenue area of ​​Newcastle.

“It was reported that two men – suspected of having possession of a bladed article and a baseball bat – were fighting in the street.

“Agents were deployed in the area but the two men had left the scene. A 25-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of a brawl and remains in custody.

“An investigation has been opened into the incident and officers remain on site to investigate.
