COVID-19: Self-isolation exemption for food supply chain personnel will not be extended to other companies, Minister says | Politics News

Emergency measures to exempt food supply chain workers from coronavirus self-isolation rules will not be extended to other businesses, Environment Secretary George Eustice told Sky News.

Excluding other sectors such as the hospitality industry, the cabinet minister said he understood it was frustrating, but stressed the need to “dampen the rate and speed” at which the infection is spreading.

He said: “We obviously keep everything under control.

“The reason we made a special exception for food is for very obvious reasons.

“We have to make sure that we maintain our food supply.

“We will never take risks with our food supply.

“As for the other sectors, yes of course the fact that they also have high absence rates causes them some stress, which makes things more difficult.

“But you also have to keep in mind why we are doing this.

“We are still trying to slow down the rate and the speed of the spread of this infection because we have to monitor these hospitalizations very closely.”

He added: “I know it’s frustrating for everyone, but we just want to try and smooth out the curve of this infection, until it spins and things start to go the other way. meaning.”
