What is the best business practice? Competitiveness? Flexibility? We all have our own thoughts and opinions on the answer, but what if we told you that there is one area that could encompass so many of these individual best practices?
As part of Business Reporter’s Best of British Business campaign, our CEO Michael Barrington-Hibbert was invited to interview representatives from three companies that represented – as you can guess – the best of the UK economy: l City Of London Corporation Alderman Vincent Keaveny, Pension Bee Founder and CEO Romi Savova and Kick it Out Chairman Sanjay Bhandari.
Business Reporter: How diversity helps improve product offerings
On paper, you’d be hard pressed to find three individuals from more distinct backgrounds. However, each of them agreed on one thing. Whether it’s keeping the City competitive, helping people increase their pensions, addressing the lack of representation of ethnic minorities in all areas of football, diversity is good for business and one of the most positive and powerful tools available to us. Without it, businesses, whatever their shape or form, will miss out.
It is far from being a new idea or a revolutionary concept. In fact, this is something that many of us have been shouting about for quite some time. However, after years of uncertainty, it seems that people from various sectors and functions are finally starting to open up to the power to be more inclusive.
Business Reporter: Kick It Out CEO Explains How Improving Diversity Helps Society
As many of us reflect on what, if anything, we have learned in the year since the murder of George Floyd and the protests that rocked the world, we have a real opportunity to give ourselves a positive response. From a social, ethical and business perspective, putting inclusion at the heart of our workplaces and communities will pay serious dividends, and it’s a position we all need to take.
Diversity is good for business – embrace it or be prepared to miss it.
