Emergency in Wales: Tragedy as man dies on beach – “Very sad and moving” | United Kingdom | New UK News

Emergency services were called to Porth Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth), near Abersoch, on Friday following reports of three people struggling in the water. Doctors fought for more than an hour to resuscitate the man while the family watched.

HM Coastguard said he was called around 2:30 p.m.

A spokesperson said: “Coastguard rescue teams from Aberdaron and Abersoch were dispatched alongside the Caernarfon search and rescue helicopter, the Welsh Ambulance Service and the Northern Police from Wales. “

The beach is known for its land winds and difficult swimming conditions and is popular with surfers and water sports enthusiasts.

One internet user said he was “terribly sad and emotional” following the incident.

Bryn Dando, 45, filmed the Coast Guard helicopter landing before realizing what was happening.

He said: “There was a crowd of people circling someone on their backs on the beach.

“The helicopter’s paramedics were running on the beach – several of us ran with towels to keep him warm.

“Other surfers had brought their boards and formed a windbreak around him.

“They kept changing because they were exhausted.

“It takes a lot of physical effort to maintain CPR during this time.

“They did all they could, but he was gone.

“I have never witnessed anything like this before.

“I just had to go find a quiet place and cry a little.”

The surfer said the incident prompted him to purchase a buoyancy aid and signed up for a first aid course.

He added: “The wind was blowing at around 20 knots, so the surfers were offering their towels to try and keep the man warm,” he said.

“Another comforted his daughter, who was wrapped in a towel, shaking and crying.”

Writing on Facebook, in the aftermath of yesterday’s tragedy, a regular visitor said, “Such powerful rips out there. Swim along the beach, not the beach if you get stuck or it might drag you out.

“Easier said than done, I know. Sorry for those involved.

Another wrote, “Oh that’s awful. I’ve always wondered about the safety of Hell’s Mouth, as we were always told not to swim there years ago.

“And yet, recently it seems that Top has been accepted as a place to swim.”
