Speaking after Maxime Colin’s first-half header proved enough to settle the contest in favor of the visitors, the former Leeds, Newcastle and West Ham midfielder revealed he was concerned that the atmosphere inside Bramall Lane does inhibit some of the younger members of the City squad.

“Coming to Sheffield United has been a big deal for the players,” Bowyer said. “Could they take the pressure of playing in front of a crowd like this?” Because I know how good this crowd is and how they help their players.
“I said before the game, as good as their fans are, we can rock it a bit and I think that happened at the end when they wanted them to go faster and more.”

Slavisa Jokanovic, who took charge of United on July 1, later conceded that his side had not been clinical enough in possession despite Oliver Burke hitting a post shortly after Colin’s arrival.
There was more disappointment for United when Lys Mousset was forced into an injury after the break.
“I thought we looked solid and I limited them to half chances,” Bowyer said. “I thought we deserved to win. And that’s good against a team as good as Sheffield United.
