The Sulfurites were to host Rochdale in the League Cup tonight, before League Two’s trips to Crawley Town and Leyton Orient.
Last season Orient had to lose their draw against Tottenham Hotspur when the coronavirus left them unable to play. Then the first four rounds were condensed in September, and while this season’s schedule is more forgiving, it’s still tight.
The second round is scheduled for the week beginning August 23, and with the trip from Harrogate to Brisbane Road postponed it was due to be played the week before.
“The Carabao Cup is an important competition for us,” Weaver said. “As we showed last year, you are one win away from a possible televised match against a Premier League opponent.”
The league routinely investigates Covid postponements, but intends to be flexible with them and will consider any proposals Harrogate has submitted for the tie to be played.
The team will receive individual self-isolation training programs through Zoom today.
Harrogate beat Rochdale in the same spot on Saturday, beginning their League Two season with a 3-2 victory.
