Kia has devised a surf-inspired off-road concept based on the Electric Soul to celebrate its partnership with UK music festival Boardmasters.
The Kia Soul EV Boardmasters Edition has been “recycled” from a previously scrapped Soul prototype, and retains its long-lasting 64 kWh battery and 201 hp electric motor, as well as the Neptune Blue exterior paint.
The concept is based on 16-inch Maxxis Bighorn sand tires and its ride height has been increased to double its standard ground clearance, from 153mm to 310mm at the front and 320mm at the rear.
The car gained a custom steel roof rack, constructed from lightweight steel tubing with space for two 7-foot-9-inch roof-mounted surfboards. The luggage rack increases the height of the Soul to 1,950mm – 255mm more than the Kia Sorento, the largest Kia on sale in the UK.
An independent solar panel is mounted on a 12V leisure battery and is positioned above the surfboards, supplying renewable energy to a pair of Lazer ST4 Evolution LED spots as well as a mini-fridge or other ancillary devices.
Inside the car, the rear seats were removed and the trunk was enlarged to feature a PEFC-certified spruce deck behind the driver and passenger seats. It’s also been tinted white to add a ‘lighter seaside vibe in the cabin’, and a swivel arm can be used to hang a pair of wetsuits or towels.
The front of the cabin remains the same as the standard Soul, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a premium 10-speaker Harman / Kardon audio system. .
The Soul EV Boardmasters Edition is the second pre-production car to be recycled, after the track-designed Kia Stinger GT420 from 2019. Like this car, it is not intended for production, limited or otherwise.
