Lotus Evija wears Senna-inspired livery for Monterey Car Week Car News

The Lotus Evija will be presented at Monterey Car Week with an Ayrton Senna-inspired livery, appearing alongside the new Emira, which will make its US debut at the California Auto Show.

The livery features a bright yellow exterior paint with blue accents, with an overall color scheme inspired by the 1987 Lotus Type 99T, the car that Ayrton Senna drove to victory at the Detroit Grand Prix that year.

Senna’s final victory for Lotus came from the 99T, which was the first Lotus F1 car to be fitted with a Honda engine; a RA166-E V6 turbo that produced 800 hp. The Brazilian’s performance in the 99T secured third place in the Drivers’ Championship, just behind series winner Nelson Piquet and runner-up Nigel Mansell, both of whom drove for Williams.

The race car was also equipped with a computer-controlled active suspension to deal specifically with the bumpy and technically demanding city circuits of the city center, and weighed only 538 kg.

The 1972 HP Evija is Lotus’s first fully electric car and will be presented to potential customers at the start of the event, before taking center stage at the Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel Valley.

This will be the supercar’s second appearance at Monterey Car Week since its unveiling in 2019, as its first stop was in California before appearing in Japan, China and the Middle East.

The Emira will also be shown for the first time in the country at The Quail alongside the new Radford 62-2, a bodywork two-seater coupe inspired by the Lotus Type 62, before showing up at Laguna Seca Raceway for a day on celebrity track.
