HUNDREDS of naked cyclists in the saddle and crossed town to celebrate the “human-powered journey”.
People from across town gathered in Preston Park on Sunday before stripping and getting on their bikes to cycle around Brighton.
Men and women mingled for nearly an hour, painting on their bodies and hanging flags in a festival atmosphere, before setting off at 2 p.m.
It was the first time the ride had taken place since it was canceled during the Covid lockdown last year.
The naked cyclists, who decorated their bikes and set off to loud music from the speakers mounted on the bikes, were joined by clad Sussex Police officers.
Dozens of officers stopped traffic as the crowd left the park and made their way to the Royal Pavilion.
From there the ‘naked tour’ took them past the waterfront, Palace Pier, i360, The Lanes, North Laine and the town of Kemp, before ending at Black Rock naturist beach for a swim and a picnic. -nique after the hike.
One of the event’s organizers, Steve Sims, said: “We had to postpone last year and had to move on – it’s usually June – but we’re in luck. C ‘is a very good participation – we are very, very happy.
“The police always help and they are always very nice to us.
“I’m never nervous. The first time, yes, but it’s all settled now.
“Riding a naked bike is no more uncomfortable than riding with clothes on – there is nothing to irritate.”
The annual event aims to “empower” participants in a celebration of car-free and human-powered travel while “demonstrating the vulnerability of human bodies in city traffic”.
Hundreds of people waved flags as passers-by waved in support of the group.
A runner who wished to remain anonymous said he had missed the event in the past year.
“We didn’t know if we were going to have a good turnout or not,” he said. “The numbers are better than we thought.”
