Boy who died from the window of the Metropolitan Hotel on Blonk Street, Sheffield, allegedly an Afghan refugee whose family fled the Taliban UK News

South Yorkshire Police asked for information after the boy died in what was believed to have been a fall from the ninth floor of Sheffield’s Metropolitan Hotel in Blonk Street around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A member of the town’s Afghan Community Association, named only Zabi, said: “It’s very sad.

“We are looking to go see the family to help them. “

The boy’s family is supported by specially trained agents and no formal identification has yet taken place.

The hotel was reportedly used to accommodate Afghan refugees who had helped British authorities in their home country.

Another refugee staying at the hotel reportedly said the family only arrived in the UK four days ago.

Alison Teal, a Green Party adviser and a member of the council’s executive, had recently described Sheffield as a sanctuary city for Taliban refugees.

She said: “A police investigation is underway and we are informed that we cannot comment.

“It’s a really tragic story.”
