Chichester-based candy delivery service Posted Sweets sells three tons of candy per month Brighton News

THE OWNER of a pop star-endorsed candy delivery business Olly Murs says the pandemic has changed his career.

Andy Scowen, from Chichester, was running a brochure printing and distribution service when Covid-19 went out of business.

After putting his business on the back burner, Andy traded fliers for lollipops as he and his wife Katie devoted their time to a candy-selling website they had run as a hobby for six months.

As a result, the Posted Sweets website went from 500 visits to 7,000 visits per day.

Their Facebook page now has over 40,000 subscribers and even pop star Olly Murs posted on Instagram that someone sent her a Posted Sweet basket.

The online store offers pick ‘n’ mixes, retro candy, American candy, and traditional candy – all delivered to your door.

The company now employs four people and sells three tonnes of candies and chocolates per month.

Andy said the increase in business has been so significant that he has invested £ 70,000 in a new automated weighing and packaging line, which he says will help bring more success.

The 38-year-old turned to Lincolnshire-based Iris Packaging Ltd to set up and train staff at its Chichester base three months ago and says he hasn’t looked back since.

“I started Posted Sweets from the spare bedroom, and it was really just a part-time business, but then Covid came along, and it went crazy,” father-of-one said .

“As my existing business collapsed, the online business grew to such an extent that we struggled to keep up with the order level. There were days when we just had to close orders to meet demand. ”

Newly purchased machines can process what it took for a staff member all day to complete in a single hour.

“I am delighted with the decision. The guys offered us a competitive price, great customer service and training and with their help I took the business to the next level.

“The machines made order processing so efficient that I estimate we will have paid off the initial investment within a year.

Iris chief executive Craig Knight said the company has helped dozens of fledgling businesses take the next step.

“It’s fantastic to work with these new and exciting craft companies and to see them grow stronger. We always believe that our machines and support can make for success and it is satisfying to see Post Sweets doing just that.
