Covid: One more death confirmed in Somerset and more than 500 new cases Bath City News

Somerset has recorded another Covid-related death and more than 500 new cases of the virus according to the latest data.

Sedgemoor has recorded both the highest number of cases and the only death in the region, while its infection rate remains the third highest in the UK.

Cases in other districts of Somerset are also on the rise, with another 538 positive results confirmed in the region since yesterday.

Sedgemoor and North Somerset both recorded 117 additional cases while South Somerset recorded 89, BANES recorded 85 and Somerset West and Taunton recorded 78.

Mendip remains the Somerset region with the fewest cases, recording 52 more infections in the past 24 hours. It brings the total number of cases in the Somerset region since the start of the pandemic to 64,230.

Somerset’s infection rate is 404.5 cases per 100,000, exceeding the UK rate of 319.8. Particularly worrying is Sedgemoor’s rate, with a whopping 691.0.

It is the highest infection rate of any county in England and the third highest in the UK.

Bath and North East Somerset: 14 932 (+85)

Mendip: 5,969 (+52)

North Somerset: 16,427 (+117)

Sedgemoor: 8 877 (+117)

Somerset West and Taunton: 9,004 (+78)

Somerset South: 9,021 (+89)
