Over the weekend, it was announced that antibody testing will be widely offered for the first time in a new program that aims to learn more about the natural protection of people after contracting the coronavirus.
The plan is to test thousands of adults every day. In fact, anyone over the age of 18 will be able to register for a PCR test starting tomorrow.
We were promised it will be quick and easy – with just a little finger prick test as soon as possible after the positive result.
The second test will be done 28 days later and this will measure the antibodies generated in response to the infection.
The hope is that this gives us a better idea of how the immunization program works and how we respond to variants.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said: “Antibody tests will be rolled out to thousands of adults per day across the UK.
“If you have tested positive for Covid-19, I urge you to register to help us better understand the effectiveness of vaccines and develop future treatments. “
Mr Javid hopes this “will strengthen our understanding of Covid-19 as we cautiously return to a more normal life.”
