The new Genesis G70 on sale in the UK next month from £ 33,850 Car News

The Hyundai group’s luxury brand, Genesis, continues to expand its European lineup after its recent entry into the region, with the G70 sedan and its sibling SUV GV70 arriving in dealerships next month.

Priced at £ 33,850, the G70 is a direct competitor to the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 Series. It debuted in the US in 2017 and has now undergone a mid-life redesign, with tweaks. most prominent external ones at the front, where a new hexagonal grille combines with thin strips of four-LED headlights, replacing the more conventional clusters.

The ‘athletic’ visual overhaul is complemented by a new side profile in which the L-shaped chrome fender trim is replaced with a more focused air duct closer to the front wheel.

At the rear, the monoblock lights are replaced by two LED strips on each side, reflecting the front. A new diffuser-style rear bumper in mesh and body color completes the redesign, along with new wheel designs.

It is available exclusively with rear-wheel drive from launch, fitted with either a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine or a 2.2-liter diesel engine. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is fitted throughout the range.

Inside, Genesis says the updates “take advantage of a driver-centric architecture resembling a fighter jet cockpit” with improved technology. Chief among them is the introduction of a new 10.25-inch infotainment screen with a new user interface supporting wireless software updates, Google CarPay and a redesigned wireless smartphone charger.

The G70 and GV70 follow the largest luxury duo G80 and GV80 on the market as Genesis rapidly expands its product line in an effort to tackle the mainstays of the European premium segment: BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. A station wagon-body Shooting Brake version of the G70 was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last month, and will be priced up ahead of a “soon after” sale date.
