“Mini tornado” throws bags, tarps and gazebo in the air at West Country Antique Show Bath City News

Merchants and visitors to an antique fair in Cornwall were shocked and confused, after a ‘mini tornado’ threw bags, tarps and a gazebo into the air.

The event, an antiques and vintage car show at the Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge, was briefly halted as attendees realized that the wind, on an otherwise perfectly calm day, had started to pick up this morning (August 28).

Gary Down, who was at the show with his car, said everyone felt the wind, heard the bushes rustling loudly and noticed that plastic bags had started flying in the air, Cornwall Live reports.

“We could feel that wind, but it was mostly on the other side of the hedge,” Mr Down said. “I was walking around the antique district not far from where he started lifting things.

“I saw transport bags blow up, then I realized there were whole tarpaulins flying around. Then a belvedere flew into the air.

Mr Down said the sheets covering the cars were “flapping” and the wind had picked up more.

A video shows the tarps, bags and other small items being lifted and flying in a circle. The video, filmed by Mr Down, also reveals onlookers screaming in confusion and shock.

The viewer described it as a “mini tornado”, and said others were saying the same.

Mr Down continued: ‘People said they could hear thunder – but it was the clicking of things on a neighboring roof, it was not thunder. It only took a few minutes to pass, but then I saw it continue into the next field.

“The transport bags went out into the sky, never to be seen again – towels, all kinds.

“Everyone was like, ‘Blimey, it’s like a mini tornado’. It’s a little scary when a gazebo is flying around.

He added that it was a very busy fair and that he hoped no one had lost anything of value – but that it looked like some of the antique dealers could have.
