Man in critical condition after piece of granite smashed into car windshield on A69 UK News

A driver is in critical condition after a piece of granite fell from a 4×4 towing a trailer and struck his vehicle.

The incident occurred on the eastbound car of the A69 near Horsley, Northumberland.

The man, 40, was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Police said his car’s windshield was significantly damaged as a result of the incident.

The road was temporarily closed and traffic was diverted while emergency services attended the scene.

Police are now appealing to all witness drivers with dashcam footage to come forward.

Officers look forward to hearing from anyone who may have seen the 4×4 earlier today as it is said to have driven through Jesmond in Newcastle city center and then westbound on the A69.

Sergeant Ray Lowery, Northumbria Police Motorized Patrol Department, said: “This is a serious incident which has left a man in critical condition and we hope he will make a full recovery.

“We are determined to establish the circumstances as soon as possible and have already spoken to a number of witnesses and released CCTV footage.

“However, we do know that there will be more people who have not yet come forward and have information that can help us. If you have seen this incident happen, or if you think you have seen the 4×4 and its trailer earlier today, Contact us.

“We are particularly interested in receiving dashcam footage which may also assist us in this investigation.”
