Very generous on the cheese, which oozes seductively. The cranberry flavor was strong and the bread okay, but the main downside here was the saggy bacon which needed a bit of flavor and texture. A decent effort and a solid combination overall.

Costa Turkey Topping Toast, £ 4.25
Essentially a Christmas croque monsieur, which is absolutely a welcome addition to the canon of Christmas sandwiches. It’s unmistakably an extremely rich toast, with a thick smear of melted cheese on top. It’s crunchy, gooey and pleasantly sweet chutney. The bacon, soft and pale, is disappointing, and the cheese could be ripe for more oomph.

Sainsbury’s Beef Wellington Special, £ 3.50
Good layers of thinly sliced roast beef and a strong but not too powerful mushroom pate. The soft, spongy bread isn’t bad, and the crunchy red cabbage is a nice touch. A well balanced roll disappointed with its size (very small) and under-seasoning. Do they know it’s Christmas?

Aldi’s specially selected butter turkey with pigs under covers, £ 2.29
A very meat-oriented sandwich, with chunky pieces or turkey, sausage, stuffing and bacon. The stuffing is powerful and deviates slightly from the other toppings (the bacon does not pass) but the turkey is pleasantly buttered. A carnivorous door of a sandwich with thick granary bread.

Aldi Vegan Festive Feast, £ 1.69
Made with good poppy seed bread, the crispy parsnip fritter filling splits and the vegan sage and onion mayonnaise could be stronger as it’s a bit dry overall. The cranberry sauce, however, is decent, although there can be a lot more.
