Former education secretary Gavin Williamson will be knighted by the Queen, despite being twice sacked by the government.
Downing Street has confirmed that Her Majesty has approved a knighthood for Williamson who has served as MP for South Staffordshire since 2010.
A statement from NO 10 read: “The Queen was pleased to approve the honor of Knighthood being conferred on the RT Hon Gavin Williamson CBE MP.”
Soon Sir Gavin Williamson was leading the government’s response to the disruption to education in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
He received criticism for his handling of exam chaos throughout Covid and was replaced by Nadhim Zahawi in September 2021.
He was fired by Prime Minister Theresa as Defense Secretary in May 2019.
He was later fired by Boris Johnson as part of a major cabinet reshuffle amid intense criticism for his handling of the education brief in the pandemic.
